Professor Diane Rasmussen spoke with Rodney Atkinson, one of Britain’s most successful political economists, at his home in the North East of England. They discussed a wide range of urgent national and international issues, including Rodney’s influential work on tracing the rise of the fascist corporatist state in Western democracies, the false construct of the political right and left, the war in Ukraine, Brexit, and the Nazis and fascists behind the European Union.
Rodney also shared his views on Reform UK, Ben Habib, and Rupert Lowe, and reflected on his experiences of meeting Margaret Thatcher and other influential political figures in the UK. He also offers solutions for what can be done to stop corporatist fascism’s ongoing advance of corporatist fascism in the West.
Rodney traces his extensive career in political science to his upbringing in the former steel town of Consett, where his Oxford-educated father served as a local councillor. His brother, comedian and actor Rowan Atkinson, has not become involved in politics, but has spoken about the need to protect free speech based on his professional experiences.
Rodney’s 2015 talk for UK Column, 'Brexit or Die', can be viewed on YouTube. According to Rodney’s website Freenations, he is one of Britain’s most successful political economists, an expert on the constitutional effects of the UK’s membership in the European Union, and a former occasional advisor to ministers. He has authored many articles, policy papers, and books, lectured at the University of Mainz in Germany, and worked as a merchant banker in the City of London.
He was the Referendum Party candidate in North West Durham in the 1997 General Election and the lead UK Independence Party candidate for the North East Region in the 1999 European Elections. In recent years, he has given numerous speeches and interviews internationally.
UK Column looks forward to further in-depth conversations with this highly experienced and insightful political economist.
