Further Undermining Of Our Constitutional Protections Through Drink Driving Laws

I received an email this morning (how I ended up on their mailing list, I have no idea):

Rebecca is a thirteen-year-old Care2 member from England whose teenage brother Jamie was killed by a drunk driver in Otley, West Yorkshire on New Years' Eve in 2010. The driver, who was later convicted and is serving a four-year sentence, was allowed to go on driving for months before the trial commenced.

Rebecca thinks that this is terrible, and her local member of Parliament (Liberal Democrat Greg Mulholland) agrees.

We are all familiar with the atrocities of the Nazis. The same planning which slowly worked it's way into the full blown evil that we look back on in horror, is at work again.

In the 1930s, Hitler and his colleagues were well aware that a programme of euthanasia would be opposed by the German public if it were introduced in it's entirety from the outset, so they began by working to change public opinion slowly, but surely, via a campaign of propaganda. The National Socialist Racial and Political Office (NSRPA) produced leaflets, posters and short films to be shown in cinemas, pointing out to Germans the cost of maintaining asylums for the incurably ill and insane.

Jeremy Bentham

Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832) the English utilitarian and philosopher was ‘present but not voting’ for more than a century after his death at meetings of the worthies of the University of London. His embalmed body known as the ‘Auto-Icon’ still resides in a glass case at UCL. Its head is of wax but the real one is brought out for ceremonial dinners.

Child prodigy Bentham was a pupil of Blackstone at Oxford. Historian GM Trevelyan wrote that Bentham, the father of English law reform, regarded Blackstone as the arch-enemy, ‘who stood in the way of change by teaching people to make a fetish of the laws of England in the form they actually bore at the moment, a form dictated by the needs not of the present age but of ages past’. Bentham advocated a centralising legal positivism. The evolution of this was described in Lord Hewart’s 1929 book ’The New Despotism’.
