James, I can see you r well-meaning efforts in the area; I guess you are young, relatively, and ‘mean to do well’. But older and wiser people know and trust in the native god-given intelligence that we have to get us through things, and also encourage use of true intelligence, without fancy techniques; patience , courage, and other qualities. Technique lacks all spiritual qualities; it is mind control, or bending, nothing else.

Your description of the historical foundations of NLP are fair as far as they go, but too simple: nothing is born out of itself – NLPs roots go farther back, and the studies you cite as its exemplar for skill that is effective, were most likely those taken up on suggestion to be put forward in popular journals, whilst promoting the research at public expense. It also signals a change in culture; (Alternatively funds, might have been spent on creating rest homes for shattered people, or ashrams for meditators etc, because they too have significant effective results). Many more informal and formal studies exist alongside and preceded NLP, for completely different purposes. It’s fair to say that it draws upon the experience of mind control programmes from the intelligence communities, and suits inner governments, Political Correctness, and media control of the public.
NLP is a very general term now. I have to say, also , that people who seek such careers, are apt to be control freaks, to understand others by the power of their superior minds’ , or to enable businesses, cannot be relied upon to give a justifiable answer to the worth of their work. That’s because ‘they are trying to make the world a better place’, an enormous piece of learnt conceit, adopted by the young, foolish impressionable folk; people who are apt to be manipulated themselves, and demonstrate limits to rationale, critical thought , and thereby, experience. Instead it satisfies and dwarfs intellectual curiosity, by providing itself as a complete programme, the answer to the riddle of life, a professional technique.
This is all instead of other pursuits , for example, producing nice local fresh garden produce, which may be more needed. BUt you still get your hands dirty. On the whole , it is an intervention, and unnecessary especially in a spiritually informed world, or a world of free trade and healthy competition. It’s an intervention that ignores and tries to bypass natural processes, and native intelligence. A chat and a cup of tea might just do the trick instead. As for your part in things, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
