Last night’s Channel 4 Dispatches “documentary” was a classic example of a multi-purpose psychological operation, designed to minimise any urges we may have towards activism, while at the same time softening us up to yet more social profiling and the idea of energy austerity.
The programme began by dropping in everyone’s new favourite euphemism, “fuel poverty.” Now, according to my next door neighbour (no, really!), “fuel poverty” can be defined as either:
“The state of having to spend more than 10% of disposable income to keep your fleet of private jets running. Cost-cutting measures on imported Cuban cigars and vintage Cognac may be necessary.”
- or -
“The state of having to spend more than 10% of disposable income on heating so that you don’t die of hypothermia. Cost-cutting measures such as eating left-over cat food may be necessary.”
So any hard hitting Channel 4 documentary discussing rip-off Britain and its energy cartel would concentrate on the latter of these definitions, no?
No.
They chose, and I quote, “a single mum with three boys in Liverpool, struggling to pay her massive bills.”
The household concerned had an annual electricity bill of £1200 a year, or so. The three boys had a television, computer and video game EACH, which they used for an average of 4 hours per day.
So here’s the first psychological hit. Who would really care about, or feel sorry for, this particular woman or her offspring? No need to get up off my sofa to campaign against the injustice they’re suffering, I think.
Dispatches solution to high energy prices was not, as you might think, to vilify the energy companies for giving away 40% of our energy bills to shareholders as dividends. No, no, no. Although this was mentioned in passing, the main thrust was that the energy companies should hang their heads in shame for living in the twentieth century. Here in the twenty-first century, all homes should have a “smart meter.”
With a smart meter, all our problems go away. We can fight off the hypotheria with the warm glow we get from knowing that our energy usage is being monitored at all times and that data is sent back to the energy company at half hourly intervals. This is not another spoke in the great wheel that is the future social profiling uber-database (pdf). Rather it is a useful tool which will allow us, as consumers, to log onto a handy website and see pretty graphs of our energy usage. We can then decide where we can reduce our bills by switching stuff off.

“Fuel poverty” appears to be another deceit, designed to allow money to be moved in society, from those that have more of it, to those that have less. As anyone without income is given ‘benefits’, to provide them with shelter, warmth and food, why should we need to define any ‘poverty’ ?
Let’s think of a range of other poverties : anyne spending 10%+ of their disposable income on housing has ‘accommodation poverty’, on travel ‘travel poverty’, on clothes ‘clothing poverty’, and we could go on and on of course. The present author maybe spends 10%+ of his pension on Guinness, so has ‘Guinness poverty’.
The ‘fuel poverty’ deceit is yet another scam to bring in the communist upopia by stealth. That’s all it is.

Yes, I watched it last night.
Cleverly crafted program, that avoids the real issues and doesn’t really discuss the privatisation of state energy producing industries and the lack of nuclear power plan contructions. Instead they showed new gas power stations being built even though the Gas is finite and coming from costly sources abroad.
I actually began to hate the wretched sounding woman and her stupid kids who were plainly frenzied game and tv junkies of the blinded consumer generation.
The real question is how do we bring sensibly priced energy to all and stop all profiteering by private enterprise in the production of energy for everyone. The government has been taken over by the private enterprises, the banks the energy companies, the large companies dictate policy to the so-called policy makers in the government without any real scrutinisation by the electorate, commons committees and even the Lords.
They blamed the gas price link to Oil prices. But they did not question why and any real remedial action to remove this inter-dependence.
Funny the link between gas and oils prices only seems to work when oils is increasing in price.
When it drops the gas stays high as it`s a profit rachet that only works one way, up.
People should be educated about the benefits of nuclear power and other new essential technologies available to make our (I mean all people on all continents) lives much better and leave the current backward way of thinking and of doing things to the past where it belongs.

Nuclear power is not just about generating electricity. You need to do a little more research and keep an open mind.
The real issue is energy flux density, and wave power, however clean, green and attractive, is orders of magnitude lower in flux density than nuclear fission, not to mention fusion, which would already be available if powerful interests associated with the usual Anglo-American suspects had not shut down the FEF in the 80’s.
What did you expect from a state-run propaganda channel? I mean of course your ruling party’s favorite hobby horses will get the glowing Madison Avenue treatment on TV. That’s what happens in communist countries where apparatchiki interests are regularly promoted over the interests of the ‘proletariat.’

The issue is more complex than appears on the surface and requires an understanding of scientific/physical principles.
True progress, or profit, is only ever achieved in human civilization by means of the employment of power in and over nature. Nuclear physics is the apex of human scientific comprehension of the nature of the subatomic physical universe, and as such is vital to our future progress.
There is a whole generation of new reactor designs that are as yet unrealized because of the environmentalist lobby (cult), and if we do not replace our existing aging infrastructure soon in UK, we will have yet another step change in energy shortages.
But, the basic point is that mankind can only progress and prosper by fundamental advances in science, and if we turn our backs on progress, natural law will take revenge on us for such stupidity.

This all goes back to Paulo Sarpi and empiricism, which was a venetian operation run against the Renaissance to contain the benefits to mankind that an expanded awareness of the scientific method within extended European civilization would have allowed.
Some serious study of Plato, Nicolas of Cusa, Leibnitz, Kepler, Gauss, Riemann is required to understand the method by which fundamental revolutions in science are made by use of cognition.
Ultimately, the oligarchy does not want a competent scientific culture to emerge as this would challenge their monopolistic power.

Bearing in mind that we are being FORCED to close down the majority of our coal-fired power stations , BY THE EU – within the next 10 years, I believe, and that the French won’t be able to instal Nuclear Power Stations for some 20 years, then, what happens in the interim ?

Well, they’re already brainwashing people to switch stuff off. But I believe they plan that the population of the UK will be falling markedly by then.
In the end, they’ll may be forced to pull more from the continent. There’s currently a 2GW contingency from France which is largely unused at the moment. That’s 2GW on top of our present 80GW generating capacity.
Wind and (especially) solar, are never going to meet that requirement. Any greenies out there believing that they will are clearly on some kind of mind altering drug.
Remember, folks, even if its a sunny day, and even if you can invent some solar panels running at 100% efficiency (what are they at the moment … 10-20%?), solar panels can only generate 250W per square metre or so in the UK. Do the maths.
